Lofi Girl—whose perpetual studying animation accompanies a long-running YouTube stream titled “lofi hip hop radio – beats to relax/study to”—has finally graduated.

This calls for music to celebrate/chill to.

Lofi Girl—the animated star of the popular YouTube channel of the same name, which provides users with a 24/7 livestream of lo-fi hip-hop music—has graduated from her seemingly infinite loop of studying after seven years.

In a video posted to TikTok July 29, the cute character traded in her iconic headphones for a graduation cap while holding up a laptop reading, “THE END.”

“Finally, finished with all my homework,” an audio track, taken from the Disney Channel show A.N.T. Farm, played in the background. “I don’t know what I learned, but I’m done learning.”

Needless to say, longtime listeners were thrilled with her big milestone, with YouTube’s verified TikTok account writing in the comments section, “girl congratulations and we MEAN THAT.”

Meanwhile, a message from Duolingo Brazil—whose owl mascot “died” earlier this year before being resurrected from the dead—read, “End of an era.”

Indeed, Lofi Girl has been doing her schoolwork for quite some time. The Studio Ghibli–inspired animation of her perpetually studying popped up on YouTube in March 2018, accompanying a livestream of what’s described in the video title as “Lofi hip hop mix – Beats to Relax/Study to.”

The stream was briefly halted 2020 and 2022 due to copyright complaints. YouTube later confirmed that the takedown requests were bogus and reinstated the long-running video, with Lofi Girl continuing to study at her desk as her cat stared out the window.

To date, Lofi Girl’s YouTube channel (formerly known as ChilledCow) has garnered 15.1 million subscribers, with thousands of users simultaneously listening in the lo-fi hip-hop radio stream.

Her popularity has also sparked the creation of other characters on the channel, including a male counterpart for the “synthwave radio – beats to chill/game to” livestream.
