“Harrison Ford Opens Up About Marriage to Calista Flockhart: ‘Staying in Love Is the Issue’ — What He Reveals About Their Private Struggles Will Shock Fans”

At 83, the Shrinking actor is admitting that it’s hard work to “stay in love,” you can’t just let a marriage run on autopilot.
“Old people can love, too,” he explained on NPR’s Wild Card with Rachel Martin. “You know, you think about falling in love and all of that business. You think it’s the business of youth or something, you know, and staying in love is the issue. Maintaining, nurturing, basically, not f—k up.”
Martin responded, “We all who are in love or in relationships work on that every day.”
Harrison then quipped, “With some days off for bad behavior.”

Of course, he wasn’t done making the marriage jokes. When the host asked him how long he’s been married to Flockhart, he continued, “If you ask me, I would say all my life. I was married for the first time at 23 years of age, which should be illegal.”
Flockhart is Ford’s third marriage. He was married to Mary Marquardt from 1964 to 1979; they share sons Benjamin, 58, and Willard, 56. His second marriage to Melissa Mathison lasted from 1983 to 2004. They share two children: son Malcolm, 36, and daughter Georgia, 35. Ford married the Ally McBeal star in 2010, and he soon after adopted her son, Liam, 22.
Ford and Flockhart met at the Golden Globe Awards in 2002 while he was separated from Mathison, and by September of that year, they were making their red carpet debut. It was love at first sight!
The Star Wars actor gushed about his wife in May 2023 at the Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. “My life has been enabled by my lovely wife, who has supported my passions and my dreams, and I’m grateful,” he said at the festival’s award ceremony. “And you know, I love you too. You’ve given my life purpose and meaning, and I’m grateful for that, so grateful.”
Ford and Flockhart are putting in that work to keep their marriage strong.
