Jason Momoa is diving into a new look.

The Aquaman star shaved off his beard for the first time in six years in preparation for the filming of Dune: Part Three, in which he’ll reprise his role of swordmaster Duncan Idaho after sitting out the movie franchise’s second installment in 2024.

“Goddammit,” he quipped in a video shared on Instagram July 30, after buzzing off his signature scruff. “I hate it.”

Calling it a “kickoff” to a new chapter, Jason added in a shoutout to Dune director Denis Villeneuve, “Only for you.”

But 45-year-old’s face won’t be the only familiar one on set. After all, his 16-year-old son Nakoa-Wolf Momoa—who he shares with ex Lisa Bonet—has been cast as Leto II, the son of Timothée Chalamet‘s Paul Atreides and Zendaya‘s Chani characters.

“A rude awakening is what he’s in for,” Jason joked to Extra earlier in July. “He’s into the workforce for the first time. It’s going to be good.”

Noting that Nakoa-Wolf “did it on his own,” the Game of Thrones alum continued, “You want your children to be better than you, and I really, actually believe he is. I couldn’t do what he’s doing at his age.”

Jason continued, “I was on Baywatch at 19. He’s 16 and holding s–t down with Denis Villeneuve.”

Besides, the Mananalu founder—who is also dad to 18-year-old Lola Momoa—cherishes any time he can get with his kids now that they’re all grown up. As he put it to E! News in 2023, “My babies and my family are the most important thing.”

“They want to be with their friends, so I’m just trying to catch the last bits of it,” he added in a separate interview that same year. “I’m like, ‘Give me a hug before you go.’”
