The lawyers of rapper Diddy have taken an unexpected approach in their pursuit of the artist’s innocence. TMZ reports that the artist’s legal representatives have filed a request to have his conviction overturned or a new trial conducted. The goal is to clear his name in the U.S. courts.
Diddy’s lawyers’ new efforts have attracted attention, especially as rumors increase that he might receive a presidential pardon from Donald Trump following the announcement of his sentence. The expectation is that the rapper’s punishments will be announced next month in October.

In early July, Diddy was acquitted of charges of criminal association and sex trafficking, but he was convicted on two charges of transportation for prostitution purposes. His sentences could reach 10 years in prison for each conviction.
Diddy’s conviction was in accordance with the Mann Act, a U.S. law that criminalizes the transportation of people across state lines for the purpose of sexual involvement. The singer and his lawyers argue that he did not have sexual relations with the women mentioned in the case and did not arrange their transport — which could clear him of the charges.

The intention of the singer’s lawyers is for the convictions to be overturned or for a new trial to be scheduled. International media reminds us that, if a new trial occurs, Diddy could also face additional charges.
Donald Trump has yet to publicly comment on the rumors regarding the possible presidential pardon he may grant to Diddy. However, international media has already reported that the possibility is being considered by the politician.
