ndiana Fever’s Sophie Cunningham has been fined once again by the WNBA after voicing her frustration with the refereeing on her podcast ‘Show Me Something’. This time, the fine came after Cunningham criticized how the referees treated Dallas Wings rookie Paige Bueckers during the August 12 game in Indianapolis. Cunningham didn’t hold back and made it clear she was unhappy with the calls favoring Bueckers.
In the August 13 episode, Cunningham commented, “I love Paige, don’t get me wrong. I think she’s an incredible player and I’d love to play with her someday, but those refs gave her every darn whistle last night. You literally couldn’t touch her. That really bugs me.” This statement cost her a fine, making it three penalties for criticizing the refereeing this season.
The first fine came after a TikTok where she lip-synced to Sabrina Carpenter’s song ‘Manchild’, mocking some referees. Then, in her podcast debut, she received another $1,500 penalty. Cunningham remarked in her latest podcast, “I’m officially 3 for 3 in being fined by the WNBA.” Her co-host, West Wilson, couldn’t help but express his surprise.

On Sunday, Cunningham suffered an MCL injury that ended her season when Bria Hartley from Connecticut fell on her leg. Cunningham’s sister, Lindsey, criticized the WNBA on social media, suggesting they should focus more on improving refereeing than fining players for their comments.
In her podcast, Cunningham downplayed any ill intent in Hartley’s fall. “I know Bria, we’re really good friends and I’ve been waiting to talk about this on the podcast,” Cunningham said. She assured there was no intention to hurt her and asked fans to stop criticizing Hartley, reaffirming her friendship and respect for her.
