Sources reported Swift was skipping the show as she prepares for her upcoming album release.
Taylor Swift was noticeably absent as stars gathered on the VMAs 2025 red carpet on September 7. While fans hoped the singer—and her new fiancĂ© Travis Kelce—would be making an appearance at tonight’s festivities, sources confirmed ahead of the ceremony that she will not be present.
E! News reported on September 5 that Swift is “opting to skip” the show as she prepares for the release of her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, on October 3.

Swift is up for the biggest award of the night, Artist of the Year, alongside Lady Gage, Beyoncé, Bad Bunny, Morgan Wallen, Kendrick Lamar, and The Weeknd.
This year’s ceremony is her first time missing the award show since 2021.

Swift and Kelce recently announced their engagement on August 26 with a series of photos that saw them packing on the PDA in a flower-filled garden. Swift showed off her 10-carat engagement ring—an old mine cut diamond bezel-set in a yellow gold band that is reportedly worth around $1 million. Both Swift and Kelce wore matching Ralph Lauren looks for the engagement photos.
