Taylor Swift asked Gigi Hadid to be her bridesmaid during dinner, but Gigi’s response shocked her so much she said, “Is this even possible?” and didn’t know what to do. November 3rd, 2025, 7:30 p.m. Taylor Swift sat across from Gi Hadid at Rouse, one of Manhattan’s most exclusive restaurants, nervously fidgeting with the small velvet pouch in her purse.
Over the past two weeks, she’d been having what Travis had jokingly called bridesmaid auditions, intimate dinners with her closest friends, where she planned to ask them to be part of her wedding party. The engagement had been official for just over two months now. And while she and Travis had managed to keep most of the wedding details private, the pressure to start making concrete plans was mounting.
Every magazine seemed to have a theory about who would be in her wedding party, where they’d get married, and when it would happen. Tonight was supposed to be straightforward. Dinner with one of her oldest friends, followed by a heartfelt bridesmaid proposal. What Taylor didn’t expect was for the conversation to take a turn that would leave her questioning everything she thought she knew about her friendships and her wedding plans.
The restaurant was buzzing with its usual mix of celebrities and well-connected New Yorkers. But their corner table provided enough privacy for the kind of conversation Taylor needed to have. She’d specifically requested this table when she made the reservation, knowing that what she was planning to ask Xi would require some level of intimacy and discretion.
This place never changes, Gigi said, looking around the dimly lit restaurant with its red checkered tablecloths and walls covered in framed photos of celebrities who dined there over the decades. Remember when we used to come here after fashion week shows and complain about everything? Taylor laughed, some of her nervousness easing as she settled into the familiar rhythm of their friendship.
You mean when you’d complain about the photographers and I’d complain about whatever drama was happening in my love life? Those were simpler times. Were they though? Gigi asked, raising an eyebrow as she sipped her wine. You were dealing with so much back then. The media was brutal and you were trying to figure out who you were outside of all the noise.
True, but at least I wasn’t trying to plan a wedding that half the world wants to know every detail about. Taylor picked at her salad, her appetite diminished by the combination of nerves about her upcoming question and the general stress of wedding planning under public scrutiny. Xi leaned forward, her expression becoming more serious and attentive.
How are you handling all of that? The planning, the pressure, the constant speculation. I see the magazine covers every time I’m in line at the grocery store, and they all have different theories about your wedding. Taylor took a deeper sip of her wine, considering the question carefully. Honestly, it’s overwhelming.
Every decision feels enormous because I know it’s going to be dissected by everyone. where we get married, who we invite, what I wear, what flowers we choose, everything is going to be analyzed and criticized and turned into content. That sounds exhausting. It is, but Travis has been amazing about it. He keeps reminding me that the only thing that really matters is that we’re getting married, not how we’re getting married or what everyone else thinks about it.

He’s right, you know. But I also know you. And I know you want it to be perfect. I do want it to be perfect, Taylor admitted, her voice getting softer. But perfect for us, not perfect for everyone else’s expectations. I want our wedding to feel like us, intimate, meaningful, surrounded by people who actually know and love us, rather than people who just want to be able to say they were there.
Xi smiled warmly. That’s exactly what it should be. And from what I can see, you and Travis are building something really beautiful together. The way he looks at you, the way you light up when you talk about him, it’s the real thing. They spent the next hour catching up on life, work, and family.
Xi told her about Kai’s latest adventures in preschool, including a recent incident involving fingerpaint and the family cat that had required an emergency bath for all parties involved. She shared updates about her upcoming projects and how she was learning to balance her career with being present for the important moments in her daughter’s life.
Taylor shared stories about life with Travis and how strange but wonderful it was to be planning a future with someone who truly understood the unique challenges of her world. She talked about how they’d been having conversations about everything from where they wanted to live long-term to how many children they wanted to have.
It’s funny, Taylor said, twirling her pasta around her fork. I spent so many years thinking that my career and my personal life had to be separate, that I could never find someone who would understand both parts of me. But with Travis, it all fits together somehow. That’s what real love is supposed to do, Gigi replied.
It’s supposed to make your life feel more integrated, not more complicated. As they finished their main courses, Taylor felt the velvet pouch in her purse growing heavier with each passing minute. She’d planned to wait until dessert, but suddenly she couldn’t hold it in any longer. Her palms were getting sweaty, and she was worried that if she waited much longer, she’d lose her nerve entirely.
“See,” she said, her voice taking on a more serious tone that immediately caught her friend’s attention. “There’s actually a specific reason I wanted to have dinner with you tonight.” I figured, Xigi said with a knowing smile that crinkled the corners of her eyes. You’ve been fidgeting with something in your purse all evening.
And you’ve had that look on your face that you get when you’re about to ask me something important. Plus, you specifically requested this table, which you only do when you need privacy for something big. You know me too well. Taylor pulled out the small velvet pouch, her hands trembling slightly as she set it on the table between them.
Xi, you’ve been one of my closest friends for almost a decade. You’ve been there through breakups, media storms, career highs and lows, and everything in between. You were one of the first people I called when Travis and I got serious, and you were one of the first people I wanted to tell about the engagement. Gigi’s eyes began to brighten as she realized where this conversation was heading.
But she remained quiet, giving Taylor the space to say everything she needed to say. You’ve never judged me, never made me feel like I was too much or not enough. And you’ve always been honest with me, even when it was hard to hear. Taylor opened the velvet pouch with careful fingers and pulled out a small white gold bracelet with a delicate charm that read, “Will you be my bridesmaid?” An elegant script.
You’ve celebrated my successes and held me through my failures, and I can’t imagine having the most important day of my life without you being part of it. Taylor, Xi whispered, her eyes immediately filling with tears. Gigi Hadid,” Taylor said, her voice thick with emotion as she held out the bracelet.
“Will you be my bridesmaid?” For a moment, Gigi just stared at the bracelet, her eyes moving between the delicate piece of jewelry and Taylor’s hopeful face. Then she looked up at Taylor with an expression that was part joy, part something else that Taylor couldn’t quite identify, something that looked almost like regret or conflict. Taylor, Gigi said softly, her voice barely audible above the restaurant’s ambient noise.
I can’t be your bridesmaid. Taylor felt her heart sink like a stone dropped into deep water. She’d been so sure that Gigi would say yes immediately, had been so confident in their friendship and its importance that she hadn’t even considered the possibility of rejection. Oh, okay. Hey, I understand if you’re too busy with work or if the timing doesn’t work with your schedule or if No, you don’t understand.
G Xi interrupted, reaching across the table to take Taylor’s hands and hers, her grip firm and warm. I can’t be your bridesmaid because I want to be your maid of honor. Taylor’s mouth fell open in complete shock. What? I want to be your maid of honor, Taylor. I know you probably have other plans and I know this is presumptuous of me to even ask, but I need you to know how much your friendship means to me and how much I want to be the person standing closest to you on the most important day of your life.
Gigi Taylor started, but she found herself completely speechless, her mind racing to process this unexpected turn in the conversation. Let me explain, Gigi said, squeezing Taylor’s hands tighter. Do you remember when I was going through my divorce and I called you at 3:00 a.m. crying because I felt like my whole world was falling apart? Of course, I remember you.
You were in the middle of recording folklore and you were dealing with your own stress and your own relationship complications. But you stayed on the phone with me for 4 hours. And then the next day, you showed up at my apartment with ice cream and tissues and stayed with me for 3 days while I figured out how to explain everything to Kai in an age appropriate way.
Taylor felt tears starting to form in her eyes at the memory of those difficult days, watching one of her dearest friends navigate one of the hardest periods of her life. And when the media was being particularly cruel about my personal life, when they were making up stories about why my marriage ended and dragging Kai into it, you called every single one of your friends in the industry and made sure they knew not to believe or spread any of the rumors.
You protected me in ways I didn’t even know about until months later. You’re my friend. That’s what friends do. No, Taylor, that’s what best friends do. That’s what family does. That’s what the person who should be standing next to you on your wedding day does. Gigi paused, wiping away a tear that had escaped down her cheek, her voice getting stronger and more emotional.
When you first started dating, Travis, I was the first person you called. Remember? You were so nervous because you’d never felt that way about someone before and you needed someone to tell you that it was okay to be scared and excited at the same time. I remember I was terrified that I was going to mess it up somehow.
And when you and Travis had your first fight, when you thought maybe you’d made a mistake and that the whole thing was too complicated, who did you call? You, Taylor whispered. the memory of that panicked phone call coming back to her clearly. And when Travis was ready to propose, when he was trying to figure out what kind of ring to get and how to make the moment perfect for you, who did he call to ask about your preferences and what you’d want? Taylor’s eyes widened in surprise.
He called you? He called me because he knew I was the person who knew you best, who would give him honest advice about what would make you happiest. Taylor, I’ve been part of this relationship from the beginning, not as an outsider looking in, but as someone who’s helped you navigate it and grow into it.
Taylor was crying openly now, not caring who might see or what photos might end up online tomorrow. The restaurant around them seemed to fade away as she processed the depth of what Xi was saying. But Xi, she said through her tears, I was going to ask Selena to be my maid of honor. We’ve been friends for even longer, and she’s been through so much with me over the years.
I know, Xigi said gently, her voice full of understanding rather than competition. And I love Selena, and I understand if that’s what you want to do. But I needed you to know how I feel and what this friendship means to me. I needed you to know that I don’t just want to be in your wedding party. I want to be the person who helps you get ready on your wedding morning, who holds your bouquet during the ceremony, who gives one of the speeches at your reception.

“This is impossible,” Taylor said, laughing through her tears in a way that was both joyful and overwhelmed. “This is literally impossible.” “What do you mean? I mean, how am I supposed to choose between two of the most important people in my life? How am I supposed to make a decision that’s going to hurt someone I love no matter what I do? How do I rank my friendships like they’re items on a list? Gigi was quiet for a moment, considering Taylor’s dilemma with the same thoughtfulness she brought to all of their important conversations.
Then she said, “Maybe you don’t have to choose. What do you mean? I mean, maybe there’s a way to honor both relationships without having to rank them. Maybe the traditional maid of honor role doesn’t have to be the only way to show someone how much they mean to you. Taylor stared at her, trying to process what she was suggesting.
You’re suggesting I have two maids of honor. I’m suggesting you do whatever feels right for you and your friendships. This is your wedding, Taylor. You get to make the rules. You get to decide how to structure your wedding party in a way that honors the relationships that matter most to you.
They sat in silence for a few minutes, both processing the weight of the conversation and what it meant for their friendship and for Taylor’s wedding planning. The restaurant continued to buzz around them, but their corner felt like its own private world. Finally, Taylor spoke, her voice smaller and more vulnerable than it had been all evening.
Can I ask you something honestly? Of course, always. If I asked Selena to be my maid of honor and asked you to be a bridesmaid, would you be okay with that? Would it hurt our friendship? Xi considered this carefully before answering, her expression thoughtful and sincere. I’d be honored to be your bridesmaid if that’s what you want.
Your friendship means everything to me regardless of what role I play in your wedding. But I also had to tell you how I really feel about being your maid of honor because I’d regret it forever if I didn’t speak up about something this important to me. And if I asked both you and Selena to be co-mades of honor, then I’d be thrilled to share that role with her.
She’s important to you and she’s been an incredible friend to both of us over the years. We could work together to make sure your day is everything you want it to be. Taylor picked up the bridesmaid bracelet from the table and looked at it. The delicate charm catching the restaurant’s dim lighting. This seemed so simple when I planned it.
I thought I’d ask you to be my bridesmaid and you you’d say yes. We’d cry happy tears and that would be that. The best friendships are never simple, Xi said with a smile that was both warm and understanding. They’re complicated and messy and full of big feelings, but that’s what makes them worth it. That’s what makes them real.
Can I have some time to think about this, to figure out how to handle everything in a way that feels right? Of course. Take all the time you need. I just wanted you to know where I stand and how much this friendship means to me. Taylor reached across the table and pulled Gigi into a hug that lasted for a long moment. Both of them holding on tightly.
I love you so much and I’m so grateful you were honest with me about how you feel. I love you, too. And whatever you decide, I’m just honored to be part of your life and your wedding. The drive back to her apartment felt like it took forever. Taylor’s mind was racing with everything Gigi had said, replaying years of friendship and trying to figure out how to make a decision that felt right for everyone involved.
She thought about all the times Gigi had been there for her, all the ways their friendship had evolved and deepened over the years. When she finally made it home, Travis was on the couch watching football highlights, but he immediately muted the TV when he saw her face. He’d learned to read her expressions over the past two years, and he could tell immediately that something significant had happened.
“How’d dinner go?” he asked, then seeing her expression more clearly. “What happened? You look like you’ve been crying.” Taylor collapsed next to him on the couch and immediately started crying again. All the emotions from the evening hitting her at once. Hey, hey, Travis said, pulling her into his arms with the kind of immediate comfort that had become second nature to him.
What’s wrong? What happened with Xi? Through her tears, Taylor told him everything. The bridesmaid proposal, Xi’s unexpected counter proposal, the emotional conversation about their friendship, and her current state of complete confusion about how to handle the situation. So, let me get this straight,” Travis said when she finished, his voice gentle and thoughtful.
“You asked Gigi to be your bridesmaid, and she said she wanted to be your maid of honor instead.” “Yes, and you were already planning to ask Selena to be your maid of honor.” “Yes, I’ve been planning that for months, and now you don’t know what to do because you don’t want to hurt either of them.” Exactly. Taylor wiped her eyes with the tissue Travis handed her.
Travis, how am I supposed to choose between two people I love? How am I supposed to rank my friendships like their positions in a company? Travis was quiet for a moment, running his hand through her hair while he thought about her dilemma. He’d gotten to know both Gigi and Selena well over the past two years, and he understood how important both friendships were to Taylor.
Can I ask you something? He said finally. Of course. When you think about your wedding day, when you picture yourself getting ready in the morning, who do you see with you? Taylor closed her eyes and tried to visualize the scene she’d imagined so many times. I see both of them. I see Gigi helping me with my dress because she has the best eye for fashion and understands how to make everything look perfect.
And I see Selena keeping me calm because she always knows exactly what to say when I’m nervous. And she understands my anxiety better than anyone. And when you think about the reception, when you picture the speeches, who do you see standing up to talk about you? Both of them for different reasons. Selena knows all my history, all the context of where I’ve come from, and how far I’ve traveled to get to this point.
But Xi knows who I am now, who I’ve become, and she understands the person I am in this relationship with you. So why do you have to choose? Taylor opened her eyes and looked at him with confusion. Because that’s how weddings work. You have one maid of honor. Says who? Says tradition. Says every wedding I’ve ever been to.
Travis laughed softly, the sound warm and reassuring in the quiet of their living room. Babe, when have you ever been traditional? When have we ever done anything the way we’re supposed to do it? Taylor sat up straighter, considering this perspective she hadn’t thought of before. You’re Taylor Swift, Travis continued, his voice getting more animated as he warmed to his theme.
You’ve built your entire career on breaking rules and doing things your own way. You’ve redefined what it means to be a musician, what it means to connect with fans, what it means to control your own narrative. Why would your wedding be any different? So, you think I should ask both of them? I think you should do whatever makes you happiest and honors the relationships that matter most to you.
If that means having two maids of honor, then have two maids of honor. If that means creating some other role that doesn’t exist yet, then create it. This is your wedding, not a template you have to follow. Taylor felt something click into place in her mind, like a puzzle piece finally finding its proper spot.
You know what? What? You’re absolutely right. This is our wedding, and these are my friendships, and I get to decide how to handle both of them. Exactly. Taylor pulled out her phone with sudden determination. I’m calling Gigi right now. Right now. I don’t want to spend another minute being confused about this when the answer is so obvious.
Gigi answered on the second ring, her voice immediately concerned. “Hey, are you okay? You seemed pretty overwhelmed when we left the restaurant.” I’m perfect, Taylor said, her voice stronger and more confident than it had been all evening. And I have a question for you. Okay. How do you feel about being co-made of honor with Selena? There was a pause.
Then Gigi’s voice came through the phone bright with excitement. Are you serious? Dead serious. I realized that I don’t want to choose between two of the most important people in my life. I want both of you standing next to me. And I want both of you to know how much you mean to me. Taylor, that’s perfect.
That’s absolutely perfect. Really? You’re okay with sharing the role? Are you kidding? Selena is amazing, and I’d be honored to share that responsibility with her. Plus, it means I get to work with one of my favorite people to make sure your day is everything you want it to be. After they hung up, Travis looked at Taylor with a huge smile that lit up his entire face.
Feel better? so much better. But now I have to call Selena and hope she’s okay with this arrangement. She will be. She loves you and she wants you to be happy.” Taylor dialed Selena’s number, suddenly nervous again, but in a different way. When Selena answered, Taylor could hear music in the background and what sounded like people talking.
Hey babe, what’s up? I’m just in the studio, but I can step away if you need to talk. Selena, I have something to ask you and I need you to be completely honest about how you feel. Okay, now you’re scaring me a little, but go ahead. I want to ask you to be my maid of honor, but I also want to ask Xi to be my maid of honor.
Would you be okay with being co-maid of honor? Oh my god, yes. Selena’s response was immediate and enthusiastic, her voice cutting through the background noise. Taylor, that’s genius. I was actually worried about having enough time to do everything a maid of honor is supposed to do with my tour schedule next year. Having Xi to share the responsibilities with would be perfect.
Really? You’re not hurt that I’m asking both of you instead of just you? Hurt? Taylor? I’m relieved. Xi is one of my favorite people and she knows you just as well as I do in different ways. We’ll make an amazing team and your wedding is going to be incredible. After hanging up with Selena, Taylor felt like a weight had been lifted off her shoulders that she hadn’t even realized she’d been carrying.
“Both of them said yes,” Travis asked, though he could already tell from her expression that everything had worked out. Both of them said yes, and they’re both excited about working together to make everything perfect. See, I told you it would work out. Taylor curled back up in Travis’s arms, feeling more settled and happy than she had all day.
Thank you for helping me figure this out. I was so stuck in thinking there was only one right way to do this. That’s what I’m here for. Although, I have to ask, does this mean you’re going to have two bachelor parties, too? Taylor laughed, the sound lighter and more carefree than it had been all evening. Don’t get any ideas. One bachelor party is plenty.
Worth a shot, Travis said with a grin. Probably, but also twice as fun. What do you think about Taylor’s decision to have two maids of honor? Have you ever faced a situation where you had to choose between important people in your life? And here’s what I’m curious about. Do you believe it’s better to break tradition to honor relationships or stick to conventional roles? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
